Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was
established in 1994. At present the Institute has eleven departments, seven interdisciplinary academic centres and five schools covering all the major engineering ,
science, healthcare, management and humanities disciplines. Within a short period of
time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out
advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering
instruments.
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati’s campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of
land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms from the heart of the city.
With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on others,

at IIT Guwahati is the first park to be set up in NE India to promote the advancement of
technology-based innovators, entrepreneurs and small & large companies through
customized space, shared equipment, incubation, mentorship and funding.
Our faculty and researchers will be keen to discuss their ongoing research in numerous
cutting-edge topics such as converting crop residue to biogas at-scale, high-value foodproducts (e.g., turmeric milk extract, functional unripe papaya) from unique produce from
North East regions, agro-based green concrete, IoT driven mobile-edge networks,
improving stutter detection in audio recordings, Hand-function assessment using computer
vision for hand rehabilitation, and Glaucoma screening in fundus images using image
segmentation.
